Browser Jeopardy is a partially automated system for managing a private Jeopardy game formerly managed by email. It is only partially automated because the author has not yet found a way to have it add questions and evaluate responses on its own. :) Browser Jeopardy was scripted in PHP 4 and uses a PostgreSQL database server. It is hosted on a Pentium 133 with 32MB of RAM running Debian GNU/Linux behind the author's home 384Kbps SDSL connection. While the computer isn't exactly a powerhouse, it manages to serve dynamic web pages and run a modern database server while at the same time managing connectivity for the author's workstations and hosting several other services. If you aren't already an open-source geek, you should become one. Browser Jeopardy was coded entirely with the VIM (VI iMproved) editor and was tested most thoroughly with the Mozilla open-source web browser and will always look best when viewed with it. (Not very) Surprisingly, standards-bending browsers such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer render it the most poorly. And now for a little bit of legal nonsense: |
